GRANT COUNTY, Wash.-- A 21-year old Moses Lake woman and a 16-year old male face charges after leading police on a high speed chase Sunday morning between George and Moses Lake.

According to Sharon Palmerton with the Grant County Sheriff's Office, deputies initially took a report on a vehicle theft in George at about 4 a.m. Sunday. During the investigation one of the witnesses recalled seeing the two suspects pushing a different vehicle prior to the theft.

Officers found the vehicle that had been being pushed, and discovered that it had been reported stolen out of Moses Lake.

“Ephrata Police Department later saw the second reported stolen vehicle and a high speed chase ensued,” said Palmerton.

However, the chase reached speeds over 100 mph and due to safety, the pursuit was stopped. Later, Grant County deputies spotted the pair closer to Moses Lake and attempted to pull it over, but the driver sped away with deputies in pursuit.

According to Palmerton, the suspects tried to elude police by going into a field, where they ended up crashing into an irrigation ditch. The pair was not hurt, and were taken into custody.

The female was identified as Tomie Gonzalez, 21, from Moses Lake. The minor's identity has not been released.

“We would like to extend our appreciation to Ephrata Police Department as well as eye witness accounts because this was a great, cooperative effort by all,” said Palmerton.
