The very warm temperatures forecasted for this weekend have triggered an air quality advisory for the Tri-Cities area.

According to the State Ecology Department, children, the elderly and anyone with respiratory issues need to be mindful of the possibility of ground-level ozone, or smog, developing in the region.

State officials say the smog is caused by the sunlight interacts with the pollution mainly from cars and trucks and it essentially bakes the pollutants together to form the harmful conditions.

To find out if the ozone reaches an unhealthy level the community is invited to download the EPA's smartphone app called AirNow and enter their zip code for up-to-date information.
