Kennewick police say a man who barricaded himself inside an apartment at North Cleveland street surrendered after stabbing two people.

Police say early Tuesday morning an investigation revealed that Michelle Maldanado was assaulted by Rayfield Cole. Phillmore Cole, who is his brother and lives next door was called to help Maldanado and was stabbed as well. Officers say there were children in the apartment when the stabbing occurred but none of the children were physically harmed.

Officers say they were able to get out both the woman and man, who had been stabbed, out of the man's apartment. Officers say both were transported to the hospital with serious injuries.

The 47-year-old suspect than barricaded himself inside an apartment and armed himself with two knifes. Police say he made statements that police were going to have to shoot him. Negotiators say they were able to get Rayfield Cole to surrender, after he cut his own wrists. He is facing Assault and Domestic Violence charges.

Officers say they are interviewing the children as well as other witnesses. The Washington State Patrol Crime Lab Response Team will be processing the crime scene, working with Kennewick detectives.
