Calm winds helped firefighters-- including some from the Richland Fire Department-- make progress on the Snake River fire in Pomeroy in Garfield County on Monday. The lightning-caused blaze has burned about 3,100 acres of land, and is currently 70-percent contained.

One firefighter was airlifted from the front lines to be treated for a heat related illness-- they're expected to make a full recovery.

Thanks to the progress made on Monday, the fire quieted enough that orders for new and replacement personnel were canceled, and a plan to do a large burn operation was replaced with a smaller version.

Starting Tuesday morning, crews started to focus on managing hot spots.
