Road damage closes section of I-82 near Zillah

ZILLAH, Wash.-- A portion of I-82 near Zillah is closed after a sinkhole developed Tuesday afternoon.

Washington State Department of Transportation crews were called out to the eastbound lanes near milepost 54 Tuesday where erosion under the roadway caused damage to the pavement.

There is a detour in place:

• US 97 to SR 22 to SR 223 and then back onto I-82, or
• I-82 exit 50 to State Route 22 to SR 223 and then back on to I-82. 

WSDOT isn't able to provide an estimate about how long it will take to complete repairs and reopen the interstate.
