Richland High School was placed on a brief lockdown Thursday morning after a student scuffled with a security guard.

According to CPT Mike Cobb with the Richland Police Department, two boys, ages 16 and 17, were both interested in the same girl. One teen sent the other boy a threatening text message. The victim reported the threat to school officials.

A security guard at the school went to remove the student from class, and the student resisted, prompting the lockdown. Cobb said the confrontation happened just as classes were going to be let out for the next period, and the guard was concerned about other students getting involved.

Once the student was taken into custody and removed to a safe area for questioning, the lockdown was lifted.
