Procession planned Thursday for fallen Richland Marine

A Richland native who was one of 15 Marines and 1 sailor who died in a plane crash in Mississippi on July 12, 2017, will be laid to rest in his home town this weekend.

A procession to carry the remains of SGT Dietrich Schmieman to his final resting place will go through downtown Richland Thursday night. The procession will begin at the Tri-Cities Airport, then move along George Washington Way toVan Giesen.

The community is invited to line the route before 6:00 PM Thursday evening and display American flags in salute. Funeral services will be held on Saturday. Governor Jay Inslee has ordered flags at State Buildings to be lowered to half staff on Saturday in honor of Schmieman.
