A 23-year-old Yakima man is behind bars after officers say he is responsible for shooting and killing a 14-year-old.

Yakima police say the man was arrested Friday afternoon and will be charged with 1st degree murder. Officers released few other details about his capture.

Police were called to the area about 11:30 Monday morning after reports Smith was standing on the corner of Cornell Ave & W King St. in Yakima when he was shot by those inside a car driving by. 14-year-old Kabin Smith was taken to the hospital, where he later died.

Yakima police PIO Mike Bastinelli says investigators believed the shooting is related to a gang because of the clothing the teen was wearing and the nature of the crime.

Several shell casings were found in the area of the shooting, but officers did not release how many shots were fired or how many times the male victim was hit.
