A man reportedly strangled a woman in Columbia Park Sunday night, leaving her temporarily unconscious, and investigators are hoping somebody saw what happened.

Police say they were called to the park around 5:30 p.m. about 1.5 miles east of Edison St, along the river. A woman says she got into an argument with a man she didn't know and that lead to the man assaulting her. She says he choked her until she was temporarily unconsciousness.

Officers say three other women were with the man and other witnesses were in the area. At this time police say they only have confirmed the three women as witnesses and are asking them to come forward.

Police say although the victim and suspect were not known to each other, this does not appear to be a random event and there is no immediate threat to public safety.

Anyone who believes they may have witnessed the event or has any information is asked to give police a call.
