A Pasco man is expected to recover from multiple gunshot wounds he received in a shoot-out with Pasco Police late Saturday night.

According to SGT David Allen with Pasco Police Department, they were called out to a violent domestic situation in the 900 block of S. 9th Ave shortly before midnight Saturday.

When they arrived, some family members were gathered outside of the home, saying that a man was beating a woman in the home's basement. Three officers went into the basement, where they found a 31-year old man and several family members, including children. The man allows the children to leave, and officers expected the man to surrender, but he continued to resist efforts to take him into custody.

That's when officers attempted to taze the suspect.

"That failed, because the man pulled backward and broke the connection," said SGT Allen. "That's when he produces a semi-auto pistol and sets it down without pointing it at officers."

SGT Allen says officers ordered the suspect to move away from the firearm, but he ends up picking up the gun, and several shots were fired.

"The officers applied tourniquets to at least three wounds, and the suspect was taken to hospital where he has undergone surgery," Allen confirmed. "He was originally listed as critical, but at last report he is expected to survive."

Allen said the regional Special Investigation Unit is handling the investigation into the officer-involved shooting. The officers involved will be placed on administrative leave during the investigation. According to SGT Allen, there were six officers in the basement at the time of the shooting, but it's not known how many officers fired their weapon. None of the officers were hurt, though one did have two bullet holes in the leg of his pants from a single bullet.
