Due to wildfire activity, Palouse Falls was evacuated and closed down for a few days.

State Park officials say the park remains closed Friday and they plan to re-open the gates at 9 a.m. Saturday. They add the situation could change based on the fire and if it has to be closed over the weekend, signs will be placed at the exit of Highway 261.

They also remind any visitors who plan to visit to stay within 10 to 15 minutes of the camping and parking areas in case of an evacuation.

Firefighters report the fire started Wednesday and seemed to begin to die down until winds caused it to grow again on Thursday and the park was evacuated. The Franklin County Fire Districts and Adams County Fire District brought the fire under control again on Thursday.
