Oregon lawmakers are hoping that a hike in the bottle deposits will encourage more of us to recycle. For at least the past three years… less than 80-percent of bottles are being recycled and the 5-cent per bottle deposits returned to customers when the containers are taken to recycling centers. Next month… lawmakers could pass a new law doubling the deposit from 5 cents to 10 cents per bottle. The return rate only takes into account containers turned in at recycling centers… not those picked-up curbside.
