Deputies say a 20-year-old man from Tieton is dead after getting shot by a man driving by.

Yakima County Sheriff's Department says Trae Oyler was in a car with three others on a rural road in Tieton Wednesday night. Witnesses say that is when another car came up behind them, passed in the other lane and shot several rounds at the car as he was driving by, hitting Oyler. Deputies say when they arrived Oyler was dead at the scene.

A 27-year-old transit from Naches area has been arrested and he is believed to be the shooter. Deputies say he was found was not far from where the shooting took place. At this point, deputies say it is believed to be a random shooting and the suspect did not know any of the people in the victim's car.

The suspect was involved in a conflict earlier that night and deputies believe he was angry and took out his aggression on Oyler and the others in the car, no one else is believed to be involved.

Deputies say they will continue to investigate and the man will face murder and other related charges.  The suspect also had an outstanding warrant for his arrest out of California for another violent assault.

The 20-year-old recently moved to the Yakima area from out of state and was involved in a local Christian youth ministry group.
