ELLENSBURG, Wash.-- Central Washington University plans to hold a community wide memorial for those who lost their lives due to COVID-19.

The Tuesday evening event will be held in conjunction with President-elect Joe Biden’s call for nationwide memorials of support and remembrance for COVID-19 victims.

“I think it’s important because the memorial is a tribute to not only to those who have passed away because of COVID, but also the impact its had on families throughout our communities,” said Ellensburg Mayor Bruce Tabb.

The City of Ellensburg, Kittitas County Public Health Department, and Kittitas Valley Healthcare Hospital coordinated with the university to host the event.

“Our community is strongly intertwined and we care about those that lost their lives in our county, those that lost their lives in our state as well as those worldwide,” said Kremiere Jackson, vice president for Public Affairs.

Barge Hall will be illuminated in amber lights starting at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 19, 2021.

The university will live stream the memorial on CWU’s Facebook page.
