Man dies after trying to jump onto train

A man died overnight when he tried to jump onto a train to flee from law enforcement officers.

According to the Adams County Sheriff's Office, Franklin County deputies, along with Washington State Patrol Troopers and Connell Police were trying to stop a fleeing vehicle. Officers had tried using stop sticks to end the chase, but the vehicle kept going on I-90 until near Ritzville when the tires came off.

Once the car stopped, the man got out and ran away on foot, eventually making his way up an embankment before trying to leap onto a passing train. Deputies say the man died at the scene.

The incident is under investigation.
