Kennewick students see their art on buses

Pass by a Ben Franklin Transit bus and you might catch a glimpse of three local students artwork.

One of those students, David Olvera-Vragas, who took top prize in the contest, saw his work for the first time on the two buses, which will be driving around town. Olvera-Vragas says he hopes to have a career in graphic design after he studies at CBC.

"I've been drawing since I've been able to hold a pencil, and growing up I drew on napkins all the time because that is all I had," says Olvera-Vragas.

His art teacher, Suzy Ard says she has all her art students take part and this is the first time one of them has taken first place.

"I am very excited for them and especially for David since he really wants to focus on a career in art," says Ard.

Over 640 students across the Tri-Cities entered the poster contest this year, the most entries came from the Kennewick School District. The annual Ben Franklin Transit art contest picks three winners who receive art supplies for their classroom and themselves. The top winner receives a new bike and free summer-long transit rides.
