KENNEWICK, Wash.-- The case of Benton County Sheriff Jerry Hatcher's recall made its way into the courts Thursday, but all parties will have to wait 7 to 10 days after Walla Walla County Superior Court Judge Scott Wolfram granted Hatcher's attorney's request for a short continuance.

"For the record, I received 100 plus of information this morning as well, that I've not had an opportunity to review, so I'm going to need an opportunity to review that," Wolfram said during Thursday morning's hearing.

Hatcher's attorney had also sought a change of venue, but withdrew the request upon learning that Judge Wolfram would be hearing the case.

Last month, Sgt. Jason Ericksen and the Benton County Deputies Guild filed the recall petition accusing Hatcher of committing illegal acts, performing the duties of his office in an improper manner, and violating his oath.

If the judge permits the recall to move forward, the Guild and its supporters would have to gather petition signatures in order to qualify to have the recall placed on the February 2021 ballot.
