As enacted by Congress, Sunday is the National Day of Remembrance for nuclear weapons program workers.

To commemorate Oct. 30th, over 150 people came out to the Richland Community Center Wednesday to honor all nuclear weapons program workers, many in our area contributed to the efforts at Hanford.

Kevin Fitzgerald with Cold War Patriots adds that Congress has continued to recognize the day since 2009, although he adds for many workers its been an uphill battle to feel that support.

"A lot of them I think it is nice to be recognized, a lot of them, they are bitter because they did not get compensated," says Fitzgerald.

A short documentary, moment of silence and speeches from several people including Congressman Dan Newhouse and Gail Splett from the DOE made up the hour-long ceremony, reminding those in attendance of their time of Hanford more than thirty years ago.
