KENNEWICK, Wash.-- About a dozen people evacuated a home in Kennewick when a fire started in an upper bedroom Friday afternoon.

Firefighters arrived at the home in the 4600 block of W. Metaline just off of Union St. at about 12:15pm, and found smoke and flames in an upstairs bedroom.

Officials at the scene didn't yet know how many people were inside the home when the fire started, but said about twelve people, including several children, live in the home, and many of them were on scene when the fire broke out.

It's unknown whether the smoke detectors activated to alert the residents.

The upstairs bedroom and a hallway suffered some smoke and fire damage.

There were no reports of any injuries, and no word yet on how the fire started.
