Investigators say they may never find out what sparked a fire that destroyed a Kennewick home and damaged a second home early Tuesday morning.

Kennewick Fire Department was called out to a house off of 10th Ave. shortly before 3:00 AM, where they found a home fully engulfed in flames.

Fire Inspector Ethan Bishop says the fire appears to have started outside of the home.

"It started near the base of a power pole, but electricity does not appear to be the cause of the fire," Bishop said. "There was a lot of debris in the yard, and with the winds we had at the time, it pushed the flames toward the home, which had shake siding. That caught fire and moved into the attic."

Bishop says there did not appear to be anyone living in the home at the time.

A home next door had some heat damage on the exterior, but no fire damage to the structure itself. The residents of that home have not been displaced.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
