Today marks the American Diabetes Association's Alert Day, a wake-up call to those in Washington about how widespread the disease really is.

Spokesperson Kelsey Stefanik-Guizlo says nearly 627,000 people in Washington have diabetes.

"Then there is an additional 2 million, who have prediabetes, which means that they are at risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes in the future but a lot of people don't know it and 90% of people with prediabetes are not aware that they have it," says Stefanik-Guizlo.

The organization has set-up a quick test online to see if you are at risk for the disease. The test is free, anonymous risk test or you can print it out in English and in Spanish, and it only takes one minute to complete.

The risk test reports results as a numerical score indicating low or high risk for developing type 2 diabetes. Those at a higher risk are encouraged to speak with their health care providers to learn more about how to reduce their risk or delay the onset of the disease.
