I-84 WB closed due to hazardous truck fire

I-84 westbound is closed near La Grande due to a truck which caught fire in Pendleton and contains hazardous materials.

Oregon Department of Transportation is asking drivers to avoid the area due to limited truck parking in Pendleton and now La Grande. It is unknown how long the closure will remain in place. Officials say other routes in the Pendleton may also be impacted, however the eastbound lanes are currently not impacted.

The materials in the truck are being reported as cleaning compounds, food flavor and lighters (cigarette). Officals say the truck driver was not hurt and no other cars were involved.

Anyone living in the area within a 1/2 of the fire is also asked to shelter in place by the Pendleton Fire Department.
