A police officer involved in a crash in Richland was on his way to help with another crash.

Captain Jeff Taylor says an officer was heading to the accident near Jadwin and Williams when he slowed to clear the intersection, and thought it was clear, but a van hit the side of the SUV.

Taylor says no one was hurt in the crash, but the officer was going to be taken to the hospital to be looked over. Both cars suffered minor damage.

There were initial reports saying the officer was trapped in the SUV but Taylor says since the airbags deployed, the officer had a hard time getting out of the SUV.

Washington State Patrol is handling the investigation into the crash, which is procedure when a police agency is involved in something like this.
