A train derailment and fire near Mosier has caused I-84 to be closed between Hood River and the Dalles.

There are no reports of injuries after a train carrying Bakken crude oil derailed in Oregon.  Union Pacific officials said eleven rail cars derailed outside Mosier, about 70 miles east of Portland.  The company said one car was burning and leaking oil.

Black smoke and flames could be seen coming up from the derailment along the Columbia River.

Oregon Department of Transportation officials say a portion of I-84 is closed and all traffic should detour to Washington SR-14. There is no toll during the incident.

Moiser schools say on the website students have been evacuated to the Wahtonka campus and parents can pick up them up at that location.

Oregon Governor Kate Brown released a statement about the derailment saying in part, "I am closely monitoring the situation and ready to make every state resource available as needed. I ask that travelers seek alternate routes away from this area until further notice."

Washington Governor Jay Inslee also released a statement calling out the oil from the Bakken and says its another reminder of the risks and concerns of oil traveling through the region. “There are no reports of oil entering the Columbia River, and fortunately no reports of injuries. Along with the Department of Ecology and the Utilities and Transportation Commission, I will continue to monitor the situation and provide support to Gov. Brown in whatever way we can.”

This is a developing story and we will continue to follow it.
