The first event for Water Follies week is this Saturday, as 15 girls compete for scholarship money and the chance to represent the area.

The Miss Tri-Cities Scholarship Program offers over $35,000 in scholarships each year. The goal is to "inspire accomplishments and motivate personal achievement in young women to reach their educational goals and dreams."

"That just supports those gals in the program they are putting together and they're efforts to win that title and those scholarship dollars," says Powell.

She adds the pageant has actually been held longer than the hydroplane races, which have been running for 52 years.

Event Director Kathy Powell says Miss Tri-Cities Scholarship Program will be at 7 p.m. at the Kennewick High School Auditorium. You can buy tickets online for $20.00 or at the door for $25.00 and all the information is available on the Miss Tri-Cities website.
