An 11-year-old boy is dead and another child is seriously hurt after a head-on crash near Royal City.

Grant County deputies say around 2:45 p.m. Wednesday, Abigail Leyva, 18, missed a turn in the road and went into the opposite lane of Adams Road South, hitting a pickup truck head-on.

Deputies say the 11-year-old, Josue Leyva-Amenta from Quincy died at the scene. A 1-year-old in a car seat was seriously hurt and flown to a Richland hospital and later transferred to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. He is listed in stable condition with head injuries.

Both Abigail Leyva and Fausto Vargas, 56, the driver of the truck had minor injuries.

Deputies say they will continue to investigate, but at this point alcohol or drugs did not contribute to the collision and everyone was wearing seatbelts correctly.
